Planning on getting 2K's latest Switch games in physical form? You better make sure you have plenty of storage space anyway, because these suckers require a bunch of extra room.

According to 2K's own store, the physical version of Borderlands: Legendary Collection requires a download of at least 42 GB, Bioshock: The Collection requires 31 GB, and XCOM 2 Collection requires 24 GB. In other words, you're definitely going to need a microSD card for these retail releases. Better make sure you grab one along with these purchases!

They could learn to compress. Western devs have a huge issue in compression. Its practically non existent.

It’s great that these games will be available to more people but man that’s crazy. I guess with a portable there’s often going to be compromises.

Pre ordered the Bioshock Collection a while back, really hoping it runs well. The download is a huge shame but I’d rather have these games on Switch and deal with that than not have them at all.

飞艇群二维码平台Well that's stupid. Isn't the idea of having installs like that to allow assets to load faster? Is that something you really need to worry about with a cartridge-based game? If your game is unplayable out of the box, you shouldn't be selling it to begin with...

飞艇群二维码平台Contrary to popular belief, Cartridges don't really increase loading times all that much anymore. Plenty of games take quite a while regardless of physical/digital, and usually digital is very slightly faster.. Really though, with the games being as massive as they are, this was an inevitable and unavoidable thing.

飞艇群二维码平台What are you talking about? The games are compressed. You think a big developer just simply forgot to check the "Compress files" box or something?

飞艇群二维码平台The reason these downloads are big is because they simply contain more audio / texture / video files than smaller games. It's that simple. You also don't want to compress things to the point where you start losing retrievable information. It's no good if you compress things to the point where textures start needing to repeat themselves and you lose out on the work that devs put in.

Its the audio that eats up the storage on everything. Developers are obsessed with having ridiculously high quality audio in the disc rather than some download for those who want to save space and don't have an audio setup that would benefit from it. You have to find a way to compress audio where it still sounds great for the normal user.

飞艇群二维码平台In this case, it’s 2K using smaller, cheaper carts. Borderlands is only on a 8GB cart with BL1 on it. All the rest, BL2, BLTPS and even the DLC for BL1, is just a download basically. Bioshock is on a 16GB card with the DLC as the needed download. If I remember, XCOM is only using a 8GB cart too. The day of the last Direct, 2K was super honest in a tweet about what’s required and why.

Ok I wasn't interested in the games but remember cd project red's witcher 3 physical.

Wouldn't it be possible to have a working, playable "barebones version" game on the card, and outsource elements like cutscenes, voice acting etc. to the download? That way the game can at least be played, even if the majority of cosmetics are missing.

Those are some big downloads, but being collection of games I guess makes it harder to make them much smaller. I wonder if selling them full price but using larger cartridges would have been a better option, though it looks like they wouldn't even fit in a 32GB cartridge.

I would pay good money for a bigger game card. Or seperate releases.
Hell, let Limited Run games handle the release if you're afraid that nobody would buy a pricier yet bigger game card(s).
